Light turn-out, obviously. If it was too difficult of a target, I apologize (it was tough). However, I think the scores show that it could be shot... :) If I had to do it again, I would probably have one shoot 10 off the bench, and 10 standing.

True Blue Sam took the top honors for the iron sights - congrats, bro!

Billll had to fight the elements to shoot (as did I) and he did a fine job.

Danno had some trouble with his sights, and no time to tweak them, but he will be back with a vengeance next contest - which he is hosting, BTW. And I unknowingly used the target he was going to use in the May contest! A thousand pardons, sir. And props to you for submitting scores you felt uncomfortable with, many wouldn't have done that (and I suspect that may have had something to do with the low turn-out, although that is pure speculation on my part).

Mr. Completely to the top spot in the optical 22 class. Yeah, I was totally shocked too... ;)
Congrats Mr. C. - you always do a great job.

As I am wont to do, I came in behind Mr. C, and have no problem with that. He's good! But I felt ok when I shot it, could have done better maybe, but not better enough to beat Mr C on this one...

April ePostal Contest - Dots on Spots

The Mr. Completely's April ePostal Contest “Dots on Spots” (with apologies to Dr. Seuss) is on! And might I add, it is nice to host the April contest. I haven't blogged for a while (projects in the works), but I am still shooting NRA bullseye and rifle stuff. So, let's get to it.

There will be one (1) target per entry.

DISTANCE: 25 feet, or Ten yards, which ever is available at your range.

SHOOTING POSITION: All targets are to be shot standing and unsupported.

HOW TO SHOOT IT: The 10 spots on the left are to be shot holding the firearm IN ONE HAND. The 10 spots on the right are to be shot with the firearm in one or two hands, shooters choice (and I reckon most will use 2 hands, as will I).

Total shots = 20 (10 shots one-handed, and 10 shots two-handed or one-handed).

SCORING: One shot per circle. As is standard, a hit only has to touch the edge of the line to count as a hit. Each circle is worth two (2) points. Each dot in the center of the circle is worth 5 points. There is ONLY ONE point designation per circle; two points or five points. In the case of multiple hits on one circle, the lowest-point hit is the only one that will be counted, regardless of number of hits. A perfect score (20 center dots in 20 spots) would be 100 points.

CLASSES (blatantly stolen from Mr. Completely - mostly):

CLASS ONE: Any rimfire handgun with no more than a 12" barrel, iron sights.

CLASS TWO: Any rimfire handgun with no more than a 12" barrel, optic sights, no magnification.

CLASS THREE: Any centerfire (non-revolver) handgun with no more than a 12" barrel, iron sights.

CLASS FOUR: Any centerfire (non-revolver) handgun with no more than a 12" barrel, optic sights, no magnification.

CLASS FIVE: Any revolver with no more than a 12" barrel, iron sights.

CLASS SIX: Any revolver with no more than a 12" barrel, optic sights, no magnification.

CLASS SEVEN: Any handgun with no more than a 14" barrel, any sights, scopes, laser, whatever. This class is primarily for target pistols.

CLASS EIGHT: Something odd that doesn't fit the first seven categories? Puffing blow guns, shooting crossbows, blasting cannons, throwing darts, or slingshotting chipmunks*? Go for it! (*Note: The Conservative UAW Guy, Mr. Completely, Blogger and Google do not condone slingshotting live chipmunks into targets of any kind. Dead ones are cool, though.)

Ties will be broken by the most center dots hit, and failing that, by which target has the most shots closest to the center of each circle. I also accept cash.

MULTIPLE ENTRIES: The more the merrier!! You can enter more than once, in fact, it is encouraged. Shoot everything you own, and everything you can borrow! Take a buddy to the range, get him entered, then borrow his gun and enter that! The only restriction is that you can only enter once for any given gun, in any individual Class.

You can shoot the target as many times as you like, and send in the best one. Different calibers in the same gun count as one gun. For example, .38SPL and .357MAG are considered as one, as would be .44SPL and .44MAG. Different guns of the same caliber and barrel length can be entered.

PRIZES: Bragging rights and taking pleasure the shock and awe experienced by your friends and coworkers.

SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY: Mark your score on each target with a legible pen, along with the class and type of gun used. Don't write your real name on the target, only the name you want to appear in the posted results, as your target may get posted on Mr. Completely and/or on The Conservative UAW Guy websites.

Take a digital photo of, (or scan) your targets, and email the picture, along with:

1. Your score.

2. The name you want used when we post the results.

3. Gun description - Brand, model, semi-auto, revolver, black powder, caliber, barrel length, and type of sights

4. Class: Class One, Two, Three, four, five, six, seven, or eight (but easy on the chipmunks!).

5. Anything interesting or unique about your entry that other shooters might enjoy hearing about.

If you can't scan or send target pictures, send everything else to me in an email, and we'll arrange for either fax or snail mail for the targets.

Paychecks from private business shrank to their smallest share of personal income in U.S. history during the first quarter of this year, a USA TODAY analysis of government data finds.

At the same time, government-provided benefits — from Social Security, unemployment insurance, food stamps and other programs — rose to a record high during the first three months of 2010.

I wonder how much government maintenance workers make...?

Ok, I'm just going to come out and admit it... I like the show Glee.
I've watched every episode. One of my guilty pleasures.

Don't like their religion/politics sometimes, but it is well-written, engaging, has a very interesting mix of music and singers, and the actors actually do all their own singing - which is indeed rare.

And it's funny, too. The cheer-leading coach alone makes it worth watching.

Also, to counter my Glee nerdocity, I watch V now, too - which so far, has been pretty kick-ass.
And 24, but only because it's the last season, and probably with good reason, sadly.

Fun Facts About Trees

Our plant (where I am employed), timely as it always is, is having its Earth Day shindig this week.
(I know, it's late).

This involves giving tours to school-kids to show them how earth-friendly GM is, to counteract all the crap their (mostly) dirty-hippie-tree-hugging teachers tell them the rest of the year in school.
A couple of hours to counteract years of brainwashing.

*sigh*

The auto-industry spends like 8 gazillion-trillion dollars a year on environmental stuff, so leftists can bash them anyway and call them heartless, evil, polluting, capitalistic corporate giants.

So in honor of the belated Earth Day, I present you some fun facts about our ~~enemies~~ friends, trees. Don't forget to check out last year's Earth Day facts about the Earth!!!

Ok, here are the facts:

My grandfather was killed by a tree; another reason I want them eradicated.
Stoopid trees.

Trees are gay.
See how their leaves swish in the wind?
Mmm-hmm....

Trees leave stumps, which is insensitive to amputees.

It is a fact that trees have killed more people in the last 2 days than all the guns in my whole extended family combined (more than 2 guns, I'm pretty sure; total of 0 casualties).

Toothpicks are manufactured from trees!!!
PAIN, PAIN, AAAAAAAHHHHGGGGGGGG!!!!
STOOPID TOOTPICKS!!!

Keebler elves live in a tree.
I hate elves.
Stoopid elves.

Monkeys live in trees.
I hate monkeys.
Monkeys are so stupid they spell monkeys "monkeys" instead of "monkies".

Trees harbor squirrels, who are known communist sympathizers.
Especially RED ones.
They are also annoying, and anger my dogs.

Squirrel monkeys are the worst of both worlds (Evil monkeys and squirrels).

Where's my gun?

Trees can be fashioned into weapons, like spears, pikes, rolling-pins, and bats.
The number of deaths caused by these evil implements is uncountable.
Uhhhh....because there are so many of them.
We need more wood control!!!
(Heh. I said wood control.)

(I will grant, however, that bats, pikes, and spears are useful for beating and impaling hippies, commies, and Marxists. But we should use iron and aluminum implements instead.
Me working in a metal foundry has nothing to do with this opinion...)

Trees are generally tall, and that pi**es me off, as I like being the tallest one around.
The nerve of them!!!

All trees are evil,

and generally consort with flying monkeys

(but not a Flying Space Monkey!).

Trees are green, which is the same color as money.
Money is bad, and a product of capitalism.
Capitalism is bad, and is a product of greed.
Greed is bad; because it leads to innovation and creativity, to enable people to get stuff (consumerism is bad, too!).
This is irrefutable proof hippies are hypocrites, or they would be out burning down trees right now, and demanding tax increases to fund Federal Deforestation Squads (FDS).
Stoopid hippies.

But wait! There can be good that comes out of bad.
A silver lining, if you will.
Trees are made out of wood.
If you kill a tree by chopping it down and let it dry, you can start a fire with it.
With the fire, you can burn a pile of hippies.
This reduces the hippie population, and also makes the planet warmer.
This makes for longer summers, and more good shooting weather!!!
Yay!!!!
We call this a win-win-win-win-win-win situation (I think; I sort of lost count of all the goodness!).

My lack of posting has, in part, due to my overwhelming feeling of being, well, overwhelmed.
As a news junkie, I'm scared and depressed at the prospects I see for the future of Amerika (esp commie, firearms and financial aspects - 8 more banks closed this weekend, for example). As a dad and soon-to-be granddad, my concern is legitimate, to say the least.

So, as a break from the pondering, I decided to post the "Song In My Head".
Every day, or damn near, I wake up with a song playing in my head, that generally lasts throughout the day, and sometimes for several days. Sometimes it is related to something I have listened to recently, other times, well... I don't know.

This is weird, I know, but it is normal for me, much like the tinnitus I've had since I was two years old (or maybe earlier, but I'm not sure).

April's Mr. Completely e-Postal Contest starts here!
I shot this target a few years back and found it to be fun and challenging at the same time, so it is making a return. There will be 2 targets shot per entry, one shot standing, one shot sitting.

Here is the low-down:

Details:
(Firearm classifications courtesy of Mr. C):

CLASS ONE: Any rimfire handgun (semi or revolver) with no more than a 12" barrel, iron sights.

CLASS TWO: Any rimfire handgun (semi or revolver) with no more than a 12" barrel, optic sights, no magnification.

CLASS THREE: Any centerfire (non-revolver) handgun with no more than a 12" barrel, iron sights.

CLASS FOUR: Any centerfire (non-revolver) handgun with no more than a 12" barrel, optic sights, no magnification.

CLASS FIVE: Any centerfire revolver with no more than a 12" barrel, iron sights.

CLASS SIX: Any centerfire revolver with no more than a 12" barrel, optic sights, no magnification.

CLASS SEVEN: Any handgun with no more than a 14" barrel, any sights, scopes, laser, whatever. This class is primarily for target pistols.

If you have something interesting to shoot that doesn't quite fit in the above classes, go ahead and enter anyway.

DISTANCE : 25 feet, or Ten yards, whichever is available at your range.

TARGET 1 Shooting Position: STANDING, unsupported, off-hand, one or two hands on gun permitted.

TARGET 2 Shooting Position: SEATED, off of bench/table/sand-bag/aardvark. No machine rests, however. Leaning against a lane wall is permissible too, if you have no chairs or benches.

PROCEDURE/SCORING: You will shoot two targets (per entry). There are 13 circles on the paper, numbered from 1 for the largest circle, to 13 for the smallest. These (understandably) are the point values attributed to each respective circle.

In each entry, you are allowed thirteen (13) shots at each of two targets, for a total of 26 shots per entry.

Each circle can only be counted ONCE. Multiple hits on a circle will only count as one hit, and under no circumstances are more than 13 shots allowed on any target. Touching the black of the circle/breaking the edge line counts as a hit.

Each target has a perfect score of 91 (1 +2 ...+13 = 91) for a possible total score of 182 (per entry).

Note: On some of the larger circles, it is possible to hit more than one circle with one round. So, if a round hits two circles, the higher scoring circle, and ONLY higher scoring circle, will be scored.

MULTIPLE ENTRIES: You can enter as many sets of targets as you wish. Bring the whole armory! Just remember, only one entry per gun. Different calibers in the same gun count as one gun. (Like shooting 38's and .357's in your Smith and Wesson 686, for example.)

SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY: Scan or take a digital photo of your targets. The targets should have the score, shooting postion (1 - standing, 2 - sitting), your moniker, distance, and firearm type written on them.

Entries are due by 11:59PM (EST) Sunday, May 1, 2010 (to give you the weekend to shoot it). Email the images - cugblog AT msn DOT com - accompanied by the following:

1. Your score for each target page and the total score of both pages.

2. The name you want used when the results are posted; also include a link to your website and/or targets for some hot linky-love action.

3. Gun description: Brand, model, semi-auto or revolver, caliber, barrel length, and type of sights, any other cool info.

4. Class: As listed above.

5. Anything interesting or unique about your entry or shooting session that other shooters might enjoy hearing about.

STRATEGY: Strategery to consider for maximum scorage: Is it worth taking 3 shots at the 13 or the 12, forgoing the 6 points possible with the 1, 2 and 3? What about skipping the 4, too? Would it be easier to just start at 1 circle and work your way across the ascending numbers?

I mailed my US Census form today (as it is Constitutionally mandated).

So here is a handy step-by-step to guide you through the process:

1. Write down how many people live at your residence, and ONLY write down how many people live there.

2. Seal the form in the supplied envelope.

Approximate time - about 8 seconds.

3. Congratulate yourself on a Constitutionally-correct job well done.

A Sure Sign of Spring!

And that would be the triumphant return of the E-Postal Contest!! WOO-HOO!!!

If you don't recall, or have lived in a Haitian hut for the last 10 years, the e-postal contest is where one prints out a target (or two), shoots it for a score, and emails the target to the host of the contest to win fabulous prizes (Editors note: Bragging rights are indeed fabulous.)

I guess one of the more disconcerting things I've noticed over the last few years (and this is noted in Mike's essay) is the militarization of the police, along with the fact that few notice it, or if they do, they don't care. We have pretty much a standing army in our midst - armor, machine guns, sniper rifles, APV's, etc, etc. Look at the front of cop magazines, they're not "peace officers" anymore - they're "enforcers". And they damned sure look like soldiers.
That should worry leftist and righties alike.

And in the interest of full-disclosure, I have friends and relatives that are law-enforcement - and I worry about and for them. There is no doubt in my mind whose side they are on, but that doesn't mean their co-workers will all side with them if something big went down. And that could ultimately put them in harms way...

So the our sliding back-door where we let the dogs out was getting hard to latch. This usually means there is ice/snow building up in the channel at the bottom of the door.

I look down, and think to myself, "Self, it looks like a piece of the damned carpet is stuck in there". Upon closer inspection, however, I find that it is a small rodent, that has been smooshed into the shape of the door's vertical channel.
(And yes, I'm pretty sure "smooshed" is a word!)

In a word, eww.

So, being "The Man" of the house (code for doing the really shi**y jobs), I try to get it out of the door with a screwdriver.

It is FROZEN SOLID due to, I assume, globull warmening.

I try to chip it out with said screwdriver, but to no avail; it is a chunk-o-furry-ice (ask for it by name!).

Now that it has warmed up some (23F today - yay!), it has started to become malleable.

That's bad.

But at least I can extricate it from its compacted home-life.

Last weekend I stopped at Dick's in Toledo, OH to purchase a .22 rifle
for my son's 13th birthday. After selecting a model, I filled out the
required BATFE form, and passed the obligatory NICS check. Next, the
salesman requested I print my phone number on the form 4473. I
questioned why he wanted my phone number and did he intend to call me
later? He informed me that that was company policy and that they would
not complete the transaction without it. So I supplied my work phone
number and told him he was welcome to contact me at work. Next he
brought out another form with multiple copies listing "gun safety rules"
and requested that I print my name, address, DOB, sign my name, indicate
that I received a gun lock, and write down how many minor children live
in my house. I asked the salesman why he needed my personal identifying
information on this form, and he replied that he could not complete the
transaction without it. After completing this form, and if you look at
the question about children it says "none of your business", my son and
I spent 15 minutes wandering around while the salesman found a manager
to review his work. We still weren't done. The manager then had to walk
us with the firearm in her hands, to the cashier, loudly announcing "gun
sale" and stand with us while I paid for rifle.
Dick's Sporting Goods can run their business anyway they want, but I
refuse to patronize a store that purposefully invades my privacy and
treats customers as if they have done something wrong by virtue of a
firearms purchase. I almost bought a second rifle that night, and would
have if the corporate harassment had not commenced.
In addition to never shopping in your stores again, I will share my
anger with the gun-buying public. The hunters and shooters I work with
will know, the folks at the range will hear this. You likely lost $500
in sales from me this year, no biggie right? I estimate that based upon
the number of minor children left in my home, about $3000 in firearms
purchases for them before they are grown.
I attended a conference this week and one of the sponsors was giving
away Dick's Sporting Goods gift certificates. I took time to speak to
their CEO, next year he said they will go with Gander Mountain.
I don't forget, and I love to talk.

Of course, this has been my advice to men along - just say no to dicks.

PARIS, July 12 (Reuters) - Workers at collapsed French car parts maker New Fabris threatened on Sunday to blow up their factory if they did not receive payouts by July 31 from auto groups Renault and Peugeot to compensate for their lost jobs.

Pretty hardcore. But then there's this -

"The bottles of gas have already been placed at various parts of the factory and are connected with each other," CGT trades union official Guy Eyermann told France Info radio.

That's right, it's not a few "rogue workers", it's an official union negotiating tactic. Hear that Gettlfinger?

Police also declined to comment on the threat by the workers, who are occupying the New Fabris factory at Chatellerault, near Poitiers in central France.

Some French workers have adopted militant tactics in the economic crisis, including "bossnappings" where managers have been held hostage in their offices.

Dear Eric,

I believe I'm entitled to use your first name, since you have expressed an interest in circumscribing my liberty and seizing my personal property, to wit, three heretofore legal semi-automatic rifles of military utility (mistakenly dubbed "assault rifles"). Anyone who wants to do something so personal and intimate as to commit premeditated theft upon you need not be given any honorifics, don't you agree? I mean, if a street thug announces that he wishes to rob you, there is no need to address him as "Sir" this or "Mister" that. Why should rapacious government thieves who announce their intentions so boldly be treated any differently? If you are offended by the fact that you are unused to being addressed in this manner, I can only say that you are not as offended as I am at the prospect of your administration trying to steal my property and liberty.

But, that is not why I write you today. No, I received what I believe to be a credible report this afternoon about someone whom the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives views as a real thorn in their side. The substance of the report has it that you, or someone in your office, has, in reference to this friend of mine, muttered something very much like the following:

"What miserable drones and traitors have I nurtured and promoted in my household who let their lord be treated with such shameful contempt by a low-born cleric! . . . Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?"

That, of course, was Henry the Second speaking of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket, in the year of our Lord 1170.

Shortly thereafter, four of Henry's knights, Reginald Fitzurse, Hugh de Moreville, William de Tracy, and Richard le Breton entered Canterbury Cathedral, and hacked Becket to death with swords, scattering his brains on the floor. "Let us go," said one, "this fellow will not be getting up again."

That political murder had great consequences for Henry, and he regretted it the rest of his long reign.

But enough of Henry. Let's talk about the alleged threat. I am sure that this is a base canard, something attributed to you by someone who just wishes to make trouble. However, as it happens, this is not the first time, or even the second, that I have heard such threats attributed to your department since the election.

Yet, surely, such an educated man as yourself would not make King Henry's mistake. However, it seems likely that it did come out of your department, so let us say that in some perverted attempt to convey a threat to "this troublesome priest" one of your subordinates actually uttered it. Let us say, for purposes of hypothetical argument, that it is in some sense, true.

I know how agencies can spin out of control if not properly guided by upper management. So do you. I'm sure that you saw the television images out of Texas on 28 February and 19 April 1993. I think you would agree with me that neither of those days likely represented the official policy of the Clinton administration. Yet, they happened.

Subsequent to that, citizens formed self-defense militias, millions more of your hated "assault weapons" were imported and sold before the ban and we spent the next seven years staring uneasily at one another, waiting for the next government-issue bloody shoe to drop. Oh, yes, and your party lost control of the Congress, with even President Clinton blaming it on the passage of the Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban. The Law of Unintended Consequences sure sucks, doesn't it?

But, the other shoe didn't drop.

Yet, there's something you should understand about that whole process. As an amateur historian and keen observer of current affairs I can see it without difficulty.

You only get one free Waco.

If the statistics on the sales of firearms and ammunition tell you anything, you ought to understand that the same dynamic is at work now and yet from your point of view you haven't DONE anything to deserve it. Oh, you've muttered occasional threats to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban, but no one believes politicians when they speak anyway.

So why, you may ask yourself, is this happening?

Like I said, Eric, you only get one free Waco. It was your original sin. The botched raid, the massacre, the cover-ups, we've been through them already. You may remember that no one was held to account for that -- not very reassuring to the citizenry. And if, as is apparent, someone in the Department of Justice hasn't learned the lessons of the first Waco, we, the millions of "bitter clingers" out here in fly-over country, have. We have no reason to be trusting of your motives. For we, and you, have been here before.

So, let me explicate the obvious: There are no do-overs, not when it comes to your employees killing American citizens for bad reasons. Look around, count the guns, estimate the billions of rounds of small arms ammunition in private hands, and consider that the latest Janet has already declared most of the rest of us, including veterans, "domestic terrorists" anyway. Do you think we have not noticed? Do you think we do not remember the misdeeds of the last administration you were a part of?

In addition, recent government misconduct -- bureaucratic, legal and judicial -- in the Wayne Fincher and David Olofson cases (the same kind of chicanery that rightly caused you to overturn the conviction of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens) has convinced many of us that there is no percentage in betting on a fair trial if the ATF sets their sights on us and we are not part of the Mandarin class.

If we are no longer under the rule of constitutional law but are merely subject to irreversible bureaucratic diktat and we do not fancy being railroaded in a patently unfair federal trial where expert witnesses are denied access to evidence, then our options when approached by ATF agents are rather limited. It is plain, in the absence of the right of a fair trial, that a target of ATF investigation has little to lose by resorting to the right of an unfair gunfight. This may be an unintended consequence of those cases. It is nonetheless real.

Wake up and smell what your administration is shoveling from downwind, where we are forced to stand. And please understand the predicament you've put yourselves in by your present and former bad behavior.

There will be no more free Wacos.

Please, for all our sakes, counsel your employees, who apparently seek to curry your favor by misquoting you, that replicating 1993 is neither good policy nor is it your intention. We don't need any more itchy trigger fingers in this country.

And Eric, not to put too fine a point on it, but you and I both can make an educated guess about what mischief will likely ensue if ANY high-profile Second Amendment activist "has an accident". Best to tell your lads and lasses to stick to those nice safe paper cases (you know, the ones with the 4473s completed with a "Y", rather than "yes") and confine their wet-work fantasies to their off-duty reading. There's still lots of vicious drug gangs, murderous career criminals and real terrorists out there to keep them busy without picking a fight with honest American gunowners who merely want to be left alone.

Update: Had to modify BillH's score in the Class III Division due to my fat fingers. He emailed me and said his score was too good on the Class III, but never bitched about the fact I doinked him 10 points on his Class I entry. That's a good man, there.

First, my apologies. I had no idea HOW FREAKING SMALL THOSE -1 CIRCLES WERE!!
Honestly, they didn't look that small until I tried to shoot them!

Crikey.

Secondly, my apologies for the untimeliness of the final results, but there were several reasons.
1. I was out of town for training. (Which I never advertise until I am back.)

2. I started working on the scores in my hotel, when my email started doing weird things so I decided to not mess with it until I got home on my normal PC's (I rarely use my laptop). Messages like "You don't appear to have an Inbox, would you like to create one?" strike fear in the hearts of anyone with a minuscule amount of computer experience.

3. There were some issues with how people scored the targets. Again, this is my fault for having a complicated scoring structure. Many apologies, once again.

4. There were some late entries. But that's cool; I'm easy.

5. HTML tables suck when you don't hardly ever use them. Or maybe I just suck at tables.
Regardless, something sucked.

Anyhoo, here are the scores for the April contest.

(Remember, all scores are X * -1,000,000,000,000, and the LOWEST score wins.)

Note: Several scores were changed. Some to better scores, some for the worse. Remember, the original scoring entails a start of 12 Trillion, with the 1's subtracted, and all other numbers added. If your score is different, first try adding 12 to each target, and go from there.

1. Billll's Pedal Air Gun wins the overall competition, not because of his score, but because of his combination of moxie, engineering skill and most creative use of spare time and parts, which were topped off with a wee bit of psychosis!

OK I'm late. Last month didn't work out well for me including bad
weather, and the loss of about 1/2" off the end of my usual trigger
finger, so I decided I needed some humor.

This entry is Class 5, "other". Very much other.

The gun is a pedal-powered air gun made from an exercise bicycle and an
air compressor head, with a 1" barrel about 4 ft long.

The projectiles are made from spent 12ga shotgun shells with a 1/4"
screw placed through the primer hole, and ground to a point. The open
end of the shell was flared slightly to aid stability. Who knows, it may
have worked.

The course was fired at 10 yards, and 20 PSI. This sounds like awfully
low pressure, but if you get much higher, the projectiles will go
completely through the backstop, leaving a very neat 1" hole in wood up
to 1/2" chipboard.

In my back yard, I call this a kids toy. In your back yard, I hope your
kids are more than 1/4 mile away. :-)

2. Mr. Completely had a near-perfect score on his 2 handed target (7 out of 8 -1's), with the exception of one flier (or an "OH CRAP!" for you non-shooters). This enabled me to tie his score in number 2 class.
Heh. I'll take it. However, Mr. C does win the tie-breaker, as he had the most 1's on a single target. Nicely done, Mr. C.

3. Azreel informs us of how it is to shoot this contest with a "hog-leg" (the Ruger 44 Mag):

Fully loaded it weighs in at 81oz. After the first 3-4 shots it becomes frustratingly difficult to hold that sucker without shaking like an aspen leaf in a stiff breeze. While the shots on the two handed target were much better grouped (I wasted all 8 shots trying to get that one dang -1) I still managed to hit all around it but never in it. I shall name this target "Frustration".

I feel your pain, Azreel. They're still cool guns, though!

4. Azreel's friend Ryadmere is a first time ePostal shooter, and Azreel noted:

sized targets that shoot back.

Additionally we have purchased over 1.5 BILLION rounds of ammunition (not counting reloading components - HEH!).

Touching the line, or all the way in, either one, counts as a hit. If the line consists of two different scores , which it will, of course, take the point value most advantageous to your score (e.g. a -1 and a +7 - take the -1).

What does this mean for the ePostal Contest shooters?

Well, I'll tell you: pain, aggravation, heartache and frustration.
(Why does that remind me of "As you can see...girls, music, disease, heartbreak...
they all go together... Joe found out the hard way"?)

Allow me to add:
THESE ARE GUARANTEED TO BE YOUR LOWEST SCORING TARGETS, EVAH!!!! (or your entry fee back times 2!!)

So here we go.

There exists a budget crisis: You are 12 trillion+ dollars in debt, and like almost all other problems in real life, this needs to be solved employing a suitable solution involving the proper usage and application of firearms. You get two chances to resolve the problem to the best of your (shooting) ability.

Here is your target; check it, yo!

Download the target from this link: Deficit Shooting (or click the picture for the pdf - do NOT right click and copy/print!!!). You will need Adobe Reader to view and print the target.

Ok.
You need to trim dollars from your deficit. Many dollars.
Each point on the target is worth (+/-) $1 TRILLION dollars (extend little finger to side of mouth here).

The Rules:
You get two targets, eight (8) shots per target, sixteen (16) shots total.

Target One shall be shot standing, unsupported, using only one hand to hold your pistol.

Target Two shall be shot standing, unsupported, using one or two hands to hold your pistol (shooters choice).

DISTANCE: 25 feet, or 10 yards, depending on what is available to you at your range.

Remember, each point is worth $1 trillion (plus or minus). -1 will subtract a trillion from your debt, the positive numbers will add to said debt.
Your goal is to shoot all of the -$1 trillion circles (8 total) to reduce the debt - ONLY ONE SHOT PER -$1T circle is acceptable!!!
Shots that are NOT minus signs are + that number in trillions (an 8 means add $8 Trillion to your debt)), shots off the target rings are +$10 trillion.
Multiple hits on -1 circles are +$10T for each hit after the first one!!
Touching the line, or all the way in, either one, counts as a hit. If the line consists of two different scores , which it will, of course, take the point value most advantageous to your score (e.g. a -1 and a +7 - take the -1).

So here is the best you can do...
A perfect score for one target is $4 trillion in debt ($12T - (8x1)T).
A perfect set is $8 trillion in debt (the same as above, twice).

This means a completely non-perfect, worst-case set would be -$92 trillion ([10T points x 8 shots] +12 trillion) per target, for a total of -$184T - kind of like what our national debt will be after 4 years with our present group of politicians.

Summary -
Start with 12 trillion in debt.
2 targets total, 8 shots per target, for a total of 16 shots.
1st target 1 handed, standing, un-supported.
2nd target 1 or 2 handed (your choice), standing, un-supported.
Shoot for the minus ones (-1's), one shot per -$1T circle MAX.
Shots not on minus signs are added to debt (score), +$1T per point (X 7, 8, 9 or 10 rings).
Shots outside the rings/off target count as +$10T.
2nd hit on -1's count as +10T!!!
Subtract $1 trillion in debt for every -1 circle you hit; add everything else (points x 1 trillion) to your debt.

There is no time limit, because I am a heck of a guy, unlike that crafty Mr. Completely, that makes you shoot fast!
Your goal is the highest negative score you can get!

Class 1: Rimfire - Iron Sight
Class 2: Rimfire - Optic Sight
Class 3: Centerfire - Iron Sight
Class 4: Centerfire - Optic Sight
Class 5: Other - Pellet, BB, crossbow, bow, catapult, sling-shot, sling, black powder, jarts or darts. Let me know, and I'll post your scores.

MULTIPLE ENTRIES: (Blatantly stolen from Mr. C.) You can enter more than once, in fact, it is encouraged. Shoot everything you own, and everything you can borrow! Take a buddy to the range, get him entered, then borrow his gun and enter that! The only restriction is that you can only enter once for any given gun, in any individual Class.
Different calibers in the same gun count as one gun. For example, .38SPL and .357MAG are considered as one, as would be .44SPL and .44MAG. Different guns of the same caliber and barrel length can be entered. A .22 conversion on a .45 frame counts as a second gun, so you can take off the conversion and shoot the .45 too.

PRIZES: $56 trillion dollars, payable by you!!

SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY: Take a digital photo of, (or scan) your targets, and email the picture, along with:

1. Your total score.
2. The name(s) you want used when we post the results
3. Gun description - Brand, model, semi-auto, revolver, caliber, barrel length, and type of sights.

5. Anything interesting or unique about your entry that other shooters might enjoy hearing about.

The wife painted the bathroom and put a new cabinet (hutch? shelf?) in it, while at the same time, she struck a delicate balance between style and utilitarianism.

Now personally, I would have added another bar of soap, some Q-Tips (good for ears and firearms!) and a couple more washcloths, but who am I to criticize?
And I thought the baby and mother seal really set off the whole ensemble.

The real 2008 federal budget deficit was $5.1 trillion, not the $455 billion previously reported by the Congressional Budget Office, according to the "2008 Financial Report of the United States Government" as released by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

The debate over aid to the Detroit-based automakers is awash with half-truths and misrepresentations that are endlessly repeated by everyone from members of Congress to journalists. Here are seven myths about the companies and their vehicles, and the reality in each case.

Myth No. 1: Nobody buys their vehicles
Reality: General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC sold 8.5 million vehicles in the United States last year and millions more around the world. GM outsold Toyota by about 1.2 million vehicles in the United States last year and holds a U.S. lead over Toyota of nearly 700,000 so far this year. Globally, GM in 2007 remained the world's largest automaker, selling 9,369,524 vehicles worldwide -- about 3,000 more than Toyota.

Ford outsold Honda by about 850,000 and Nissan by more than 1.3 million vehicles in the United States last year.

Chrysler sold more vehicles here than Nissan and Hyundai combined in 2007 and so far this year.

Myth No. 2: They build unreliable junk
Reality: The creaky, leaky vehicles of the 1980s and '90s are long gone. Consumer Reports recently found that "Ford's reliability is now on par with good Japanese automakers."

The independent J.D. Power Initial Quality Study scored Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Mercury, Pontiac and Lincoln brands' overall quality as high as or higher than that of Acura, Audi, BMW, Honda, Nissan, Scion, Volkswagen and Volvo.

J.D. Power rated the Chevrolet Malibu the highest-quality midsize sedan. Both the Malibu and Ford Fusion scored better than the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

Myth No. 3: They build gas-guzzlers
Reality: All of the Detroit Three build midsize sedans that the Environmental Protection Agency rates at 29-33 miles per gallon on the highway.

The most fuel-efficient Chevrolet Malibu gets 33 m.p.g. on the highway, 2 m.p.g. better than the best Honda Accord. The most fuel-efficient Ford Focus has the same highway fuel economy ratings as the most efficient Toyota Corolla. The most fuel-efficient Chevrolet Cobalt has the same city fuel economy and better highway fuel economy than the most efficient non-hybrid Honda Civic.

A recent study by Edmunds.com found that the Chevrolet Aveo subcompact is the least expensive car to buy and operate.

Myth No. 4: They already got a $25-billion bailout
Reality: None of that money has been lent out and may not be for more than a year. In addition, it can, by law, be used only to invest in future vehicles and technology, so it has no effect on the shortage of operating cash the companies face because of the economic slowdown that's killing them now.

Myth No. 5: GM, Ford and Chrysler are idiots for investing in pickups and SUVs
Reality: The domestics' lineup has been truck-heavy, but Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have spent billions of dollars on pickups and SUVs because trucks are a large and historically profitable part of the auto industry.

The most fuel-efficient full-size pickups from GM, Ford and Chrysler all have higher EPA fuel-economy ratings than Toyota and Nissan's full-size pickups.

Myth No. 6: They don't build hybrids
Reality: The Detroit Three got into the hybrid business late, but Ford and GM each now offers more hybrid models than Honda or Nissan, with several more due to hit the road in early 2009.

Myth No. 7: Their union workers are lazy and overpaid
Reality: Chrysler tied Toyota as the most productive automaker in North America this year, according to the Harbour Report on manufacturing, which measures the amount of work done per employee. Eight of the 10 most productive vehicle assembly plants in North America belong to Chrysler, Ford or GM.

The oft-cited $70-an-hour wage and benefit figure for UAW workers inaccurately adds benefits that millions of retirees get to the pay of current workers, but divides the total only by current employees. That's like assuming you get your parents' retirement and Social Security benefits in addition to your own income.

Hourly pay for assembly line workers tops out around $28; benefits add about $14. New hires at the Detroit Three get $14 an hour. There's no pension or health care when they retire, but benefits raise their total hourly compensation to $29 while they're working. UAW wages are now comparable with Toyota workers, according to a Free Press analysis.

But when he had finished speaking his disciples told him the crowd was

the Child, but he was tempted not.

County officials spar over 'black hole' comment

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre
this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the
central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments
and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that
central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly
has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud
"Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a
"white hole."

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand
an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an
intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape."

Maybe it's an object that doesn't let intelligence escape, either.

I hope this post doesn't get me black-balled; that would be a black day.

I ordered 200 rounds of 44 Magnum brass (to go with the old 629 and the new 1894 Marlin!) from Midway USA. I like Midway, they have decent prices, good sale prices, and a large selection of almost anything gun/hunting/reloading that one could need.

Well, they had Starline brass on sale, and when I got my order, it was 9 pieces short! Grrrr.

So I called Midway's customer service number (located conveniently on the invoice). I was on hold about 4.7 seconds, and then was connected to a customer service representative. Wow.

That was fast!!

And the kicker? He was an English-speaking customer service rep!!
With an Amurican name: Don.

I told Don of my plight, and he was very understanding and polite. He asked me to wait a moment while he accessed the proper information on his computer.
While he's looking, I politely enquire if it would behoove me to yell and curse, to help expedite matters.

His equally polite response was, no; it was neither necessary nor helpful.
I told him I didn't figure it would be, but I always try to help out those helping me!

Don puts me on hold for about 6.3 seconds, and them comes back and instead of saying, I'll send you nine pieces of brass, he says, "How about I sell you 100 more pieces for half price, with no shipping costs?"

Uhhhh...more rounds? Whatever shall I do?
Heh.

So, here I call up to b**ch about their service, and instead I give them more of my money.
And happily.

That is some serious customer service. Make the customer happy, get more of his money.

The next of Mr. Completely's ePostal contest is up over at the internationally know Armes et tir passion.

(no passport needed, yet!). Manfred is the one calling the shots; It looks to be a challenging one, so we shall see what happens.

This reminds me of a conversation at the pistol club this evening:
One of our premier, top shelf, dedicated shooter's was not at the range tonight.

Dialogue was as follows (approximately):
K: Where's J.
L: He can't make it tonight, he has a bridge game to go to.
CUG: Forgo your weekly shooting with the guys to play bridge... (a litlle loudly) Well THAT doesn't sound gay at all.

Wait till I see him... ;)

Robert M. is an 18 year old libertarian (and Ron Paul supporter!). It's great to see young shooters, especially ones with cool revolvers! Go take out a young and/or new shooter this month; you'll both enjoy it, and it will help preserve our rights and heritage...

KD5NRH shot his targets while standing in a brier patch. That is dedication, too!!

Leon and Manfred are both blogger/shooters from France, and make Mr. C's ePostal contest an international event!!

Thor began shooting again a couple of months ago, after a 25 yr hiatus. And he did a dang fine job, too. Make sure to keep shooting, Thor; 25 years is too long!

Billl tells us the following:

"Saturday at the range it was 25 deg, 30 mph winds, blowing dust and dirt mixed with snow.
Today at the range it was 72 deg, 5mph winds, slightly overcast.
Springtime in the rockies. Took my daughter along, had great fun."

Sounds like good times (except for the wind). :)

And finally, I shot a perfect score on my two handed rimfire! Yay!! A rarity, to be sure.

Two notes:

1. This is the last day for the ePostal Contest: Don't Abduct Me, Bro!

2. If you attempt to energize a 3000KVA transformer by throwing in the 13,800 volt switch connected to it, and you hear a big shotgun type bang; that's bad.

GM is now the number 2 automaker in the world (at least for this past quarter).

And GM's managed to modify its market share from %30.2, down to %22.1 in just 5 years!

Nice job, Mr. Wagoner.
Make sure you give yourself a nice bonus for a job well done.

I can lose you market share and I'll only charge you 1/4 of Rick's salary!!
